Good Instagram Caption Ideas

Do you run out of ideas and struggle to write captions for instagram? Although a lot of us want to Improve our Photography and take better pictures for Instagram, we also want to make and find captions. This can be a daunting task so I have provided some strategies to finding your own voice!

What are the best types of captions for Instagram?

Instagram is a great platform allowing the image and the text to be equally as important in being the reason someone follows you. It is a way of entertaining and communicating, the best types of captions are obviously the ones that are read so consider who is reading your posts and what value or feelings that is conveying to them.

The best captions spark thought or conversation, it can be a polarizing topic of sense of empathy, take notice the next time you write a reply to a caption and read it and see if you can identify why you are commenting. Learning how to write Instagram captions is made a lot easier when you see a pattern in others captions that you can organically add to your own posts. That was it won’t feel fake and forced.

How to write Instagram captions:

  1. Write your own but credit if you are quoting
    • It’s always best to be original but if you do use someone else’s words, make sure it’s obvious they are not your own words. Make it clear by using “quotation marks” and crediting the writer.
  2. Speak from humble experience, in a kind and thoughtful tone
    • Nobody likes to be talked down to so write as if you’re providing commentary and opinions and not talking ‘at’ the reader.
Consider what makes these two captions different:
      • “It can be the simple smell of freshly cut grass that draws us from that deep place within our mind and out into the now”
      • “Go smell the grass it will break you from your bad thoughts.”
    • One allows the reader to consider the caption and the other is barking orders, its an extreme example but I hope you get the point.
  3. How to think of caption ideas!
    • A great strategy is to communicate from a point of personal experience, using the photo you have ready to post as inspiration.
    • Imagine a photo is of a wave in the ocean and imagine I am thinking about making changes in my life.
    • My first attempt might be: “Like the waves have no home bouncing between the lands, so too I feel to grow and live I should join them on their journey”.
    • Alternatively you may remember how you felt when you were taking the photo or the significance of the place it was taken.

Conclusion:

I hope this helps inspire you to create your own captions for instagram. Instagram is an incredible place when you start reading the captions of those you follow as some really resonate and the images can become secondary to the actual sentiment of the whole post.
